The award-winning work of director Yiannis Oikonomidis Spirtokoutos, which shook the stagnant waters of modern Greek cinema is adapted for the theatre by the 90οC Theater Platform, directed by Dimitris Komninos.
The play
The Matchbox is the “bloody” chronicle of a war in four walls! The “carnage” between the members of an apparently “normal” – “holy” Greek family, where one has literally trampled on the life of the other. The central figure of the play is Dimitris, a loud-mouthed family man, owner of a cafe in Korydallos who dreams of opening a gourmet piano restaurant. Dimitris is the absolute ruler of the small apartment that houses his family at which he recycles his bad-tempered behavior by exhausting the endurance of everybody. So, one fine day, on one of its eruptions, Aeolus’ sac will open, and the temperature will “climb” dangerously to… 90 degrees Celsius. The small apartment in Korydallos will turn into a battlefield and everyone… will turn against everyone. Reason from madness ceases to be distinguished in an almost “aphasic” universe where all hope of communication has been lost.
